VAN BUREN, Maine — At the Maine National Honor Society State Convention held in Orono on March 16, Lauren Headley of Van Buren District Secondary School was elected vice president of the state chapter of NHS.

As vice president, she will represent students in NHS chapters around the state.   She will help coordinate state chapter activities and help plan the annual convention, to be held next March.

Other St. John Valley NHS chapters attending the annual state convention were from Madawaska, Wisdom and Community high schools.  The keynote speaker for the banquet this year was Dixie Shaw of Catholic Charities Maine, who is based in Aroostook County.

Students participated in a business meeting and breakout sessions, where they learned about opportunities to serve their communities.
