Delbert Freeman Botting

DELBERT FREEMAN BOTTING, PATTEN – Delbert Freeman Botting. Delbert was born July 14, 1931 to the parents of Charles and Hildred Botting in Dyer Brook, Maine. The Botting’s were proud dairy farmers common for the Southern Aroostook area. Delbert attended local Merrill High School and then graduated from Ricker High School in Houlton.
He was drafted in the Army and proudly served two years in Korea during the Korean War. After leaving the Army and acquiring skills as a vehicle mechanic, he went to work for Ralph Berry in Houlton. In 1955, he married Rubenia Mae Purvis of Patten, Maine, and relocated to Patten with their two young children, Dorothy and Delbert, and settled in in the new home on Shin Pond Road. There they added one more daughter, Darlene (deceased June 2017).
Delbert worked for Cameron’s and Ballard’ garages as a mechanic and then transitioned to the JM Huber Corporation, spending many arduous years working in the Northern Maine woods. He furthered his career at the Great Northern Paper Company, where he specialized repairing large mechanical harvesting equipment and retired in 1987.
Delbert was an expert in his trade working on large, engineering and logging equipment and machinery and often helped local friends and neighbors to solve their mechanical problems in addition to his demanding work schedule while at JM Huber and Great Northern Paper.
Delbert and Rubenia celebrated 63 years of marriage. With life-long friends, they traveled throughout many parts of Canada and the U.S. and experienced the splendors the country has to offer.
Delbert is survived by his youngest brother John, daughter Dorothy of Patten and son Delbert in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
