Presque Isle Recreation Center offers swim signup, lifeguard class

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Recreation Center is currently taking prepaid registrations for the May 7 to June 16, 2018 session until May 4, 2018.  Lessons will be held at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

The fee is $25 per participant, with an additional $50 family fee for nonresidents.

The following classes have openings:

Parent/Toddler (6 months to 3 years), which requires an adult to be in the water, Tuesday 9-9:25 a.m.; Thursday 6-6:25 p.m.; and Saturday 9-9:25 a.m.

PRE 1, Ages 3-5, not comfortable in the water, Tuesday 5:30-5:55 p.m.; Friday 9-9:25 a.m.; and Saturday 10:30-10:55 a.m.

PRE 2, Ages 3-5, comfortable in the water, Tuesday 9:30-9:55 a.m.; 4-4:25 p.m.; 5-5:25 p.m.; 6-6:25 p.m.; Wednesday 4-4:25 p.m.; 5-5:25 p.m.; Thursday 5-5:25 p.m.; 5:30-5:55 p.m.; Friday 9:30-9:55 a.m.; Saturday 9-9:25 a.m.; 9:30-9:55 a.m.; and 10-10:25 a.m.

PRE 3, Ages 3-5, swimming, Tuesday 4:30-4:55 p.m.; Wednesday 4:30-4:55 p.m.; 5:30-5:55 p.m.; Thursday 6:30-6:55 p.m.; and Saturday 9:30-9:55 a.m.

Learn to Swim 1-2, beginners comfortable in the water but not swimming, Tuesday 6-6:50 p.m.; Thursday 6-6:50 p.m.; and Saturday 10-10:50 a.m.

Learn to Swim 3-4, Monday 9-9:50 a.m.; Tuesday 5-5:50 p.m.; Wednesday 4-4:50 p.m.; Thursday 4-4:50 p.m.; 5-5:50 p.m.; and Saturday 9-9:50 a.m.

Learn to Swim 5-6, Tuesday 4-4:50 p.m.; Thursday 9-9:50 a.m.; 5:30-6:20 p.m.; and Saturday 10-10:50 a.m.

Adapted lesson-for children with autism, requires an adult in the water, Wednesday 3:30-4 p.m.

Adult lessons, Wednesday, 9-9:50 a.m.

Shallow water exercise classes are held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with deep-water exercise class Monday and Wednesday, all from 10-10:50 a.m.  Prices vary depending on the number of classes for which people pre-register.

The center will offer two full lifeguard classes May 19 and 20; registration ends May 4. Participants must be 15 by the end of the course.  This is a blended learning class and online work must be completed prior to the first class. The cost is $175 for Presque Isle residents and $225 for non-residents.

A lifeguard recertification course will start June 3 with registration ending May 25.  Participants must have current or recently expired lifeguard certification. The cost is $80 for residents and $130 for non-residents.

The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course will be offered June 25-29 with registration ending on June 15.  The cost is $200 for Presque Isle residents and $250 for non-residents.

A Basic Water Safety course for daycare providers will be held May 6 with registrations ending April 27.  The cost is $30 for Presque Isle residents and $80 for non-residents.
