Graphic design firm setting up shop in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Limestone-based graphic design firm is opening a retail location in the Star City.

BLVD Graphix, which has operated a store and production space in Limestone since 2008, is slated to open for business at a Main Street store in Presque Isle sometime in May, said owner Joe Lapierre.

“We see an opportunity where we can get business from there and the surrounding areas,” Lapierre said. “There’s a lot of people driving to Presque Isle.”

BLVD Graphix’s Presque Isle store is filling the 1,000-square-foot space vacated by U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s office. The company has signs up and now is waiting for internet and phone service to be installed, Lapierre said.

Lapierre said the company will operate out of the two locations, with the Limestone facility hosting the 6,000-square-foot production space for embroidery, screen printing, digital design and other graphics work.

Lapierre said he’s expecting to hire two employees to staff the Presque Isle store, at the same time that the company also looks to grow its online business.

“We’ve got clients from Fort Kent to LA,” he said, referring to Los Angeles.

Lapierre originally hails from Van Buren and moved to Florida with his family at the age of 10. He later studied design in Florida and ran a business building customized automobiles.

“I’ve been doing graphic design for as long as I can remember. My passion is cars and design,” he said. “When we decided to move back to Maine, we decided to go full swing with design and graphics.”
