PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Gary Lloyd Brooker, 71, passed away on April 19, 2018, after a short illness. He was born on June 9, 1946, the son of Murchie and Reve (Sturgeon) Brooker.
Gary was born and raised in Presque Isle. He served one tour in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was employed as a 3rd class boiler engineer for most of his working career, most recently for Aroostook Starch, before retiring in 2009. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, as well as playing his many guitars, some of which he built himself. He also enjoyed spending special times with his family, especially his youngest grandson, Wyatt, who called him “Hamp”.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon (Turner) Brooker of Presque Isle, son, John Brooker of Oreville, California, daughter, Trish Beals and her husband, Damon, of Fort Fairfield, a sister, Thelma MacIvor of Presque Isle, a nephew, Darin MacIvor of Presque Isle, and four grandchildren.
Gary was predeceased by both his parents, and his brother-in-law, Lowell “Red” MacIvor.
Friends called from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, 79 Fleetwood St, Presque Isle, with Rev. Christopher Dare, officiating.
