Presque Isle open markets to merge

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The city’s two farmers markets will join forces this summer under one umbrella.

Presque Isle public information officer and grant writer Kim Smith said the move should better serve the community.

“The Presque Isle Farmers’ Market at the Aroostook Centre Mall and the Riverside Public Market have been meeting to discuss a merger and how it would strengthen the fresh farm-to-table movement here in Presque Isle,” said Smith.

“The combined group will be over a dozen vendors strong offering crafts, herbal products, produce, baked goods, meats (beef, pork, lamb, and fish), seedlings, maple syrup and more,” she said.

A food concession will offer breakfast sandwiches and lunch.

The Presque Isle Farmer’s Market at Riverside will be held along Riverside Drive on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning Saturday, June 2, and running into October, rain or shine.

The market will be family friendly. Parking is located across the street from the city’s new splash pad and playground, both scheduled to be open this summer.

City officials are finalizing plans to accept SNAP, EBT, debit and credit cards at the market.
