PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Eighteen Maine community college students have been named to the All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges by the national Phi Theta Kappa organization.

Individual colleges will recognize the students at events this spring.

Three students who attend Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle earned the honor. They are Jacob Chouinard of Fort Kent, Genesis Hart of Presque Isle and Atlantic City, N.J., and Brad Plourde of Eagle Lake.

The award includes a $500 scholarship from the MCCS Board of Trustees.

In addition, Chouinard and Sonya Dodson of Kennebec Valley Community College were named Maine New Century Scholars in recognition of having achieved the highest scores in the state on their All-USA Academic Team applications.

Chouinard is the 2018 Maine New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar. He will receive a $1,250 scholarship and will be invited to an Association of Community College Trustees event in October to receive his award.

Dodson is the 2018 Maine New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship.

The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Colleges nominate students based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service.
