PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The third annual Live United Aroostook Auto Rally will take place Saturday, June 2, as a fundraiser for United Way of Aroostook.
Last year’s event drew more than 65 car aficionados from all over the state. Owners displayed their cars at four locations along the 120-mile route, which spanned the entire county.
The rally, which isn’t really a race but more of a rolling car show, will begin the morning of June 2 with registration, light snacks and coffee at North Country Auto, 519 North St., Houlton, beginning at 9 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the rally will head north and travel to Presque Isle with a stop at Percy’s Auto Sales, located at 40 Houlton Rd., for a barbecue lunch at about noon for participants.
Next, the traveling auto show will make a stop at Burger Boy in Caribou for an ice cream dessert at approximately 2 p.m.
From there, participants will continue using the long route to Fort Kent for the final stop at the Lions Pavilion, which will include a dinner sponsored by NorState Federal Credit Union. Arrival in Fort Kent is expected to be at about 5 p.m.
Individuals not participating may visit any of the stops to see the cars, talk with the owners and enjoy the unique, rolling car show.
“Live United Aroostook Auto Rally was started as a fun way to fundraise for United Way by bringing together the great and generous people involved in the collector-car hobby,” said Luke Rossignol, UWA board president and auto rally organizer and participant.
“The route was chosen because it’s a great way to highlight the fact that United Way is involved in helping people throughout Aroostook County from Houlton all the way to Fort Kent,” Rossignol said.
“Last year’s rally was a great success and we are very excited about making it an even bigger and better event this year. I am looking forward to joining in this great event again this year, and I hope to see all the great people and their cars joining with us in this year’s rally.”
The $50 registration fee for participants includes the rally, vinyl package for the entrant’s car, food at all four stops, and an event T-shirt to the first 50 registrants. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to gather $100 sponsors for their individual car. Those who do will receive an individual sponsor logo to display on their automobile.
