BEVERLY ANN (KENT) HAWKES, BOLTON, CT – Beverly Ann (Kent) Hawkes, 73, of Bolton, CT, beloved wife of Clifford L. Hawkes Jr., died peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018, at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT, surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 3, 1944, in South Weymouth, MA, daughter of the late Harold and Eleanor (Colburn) Kent. Beverly grew up in Willimantic and was a graduate of Windham High School. She worked for many years for JCPenney until she retired in 2003. She married Clifford L. Hawkes Jr., on March 3, 2000, and together they resided in their farmhouse in northern Maine where she felt it was “The Way Life Should Be”.
Beverly had a green thumb and was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She had many creative abilities such as canning her harvest, sewing, and writing poetry. Beverly was a big fan of the Uconn Women’s Basketball team and never missed watching a game. She was a devout Jehovah’s Witness for over 46 years with a strong faith that never wavered. Beverly was a kind, caring, and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was known for being a gracious host, her door was always open to visitors and guests, she often hosted dinner parties and gatherings welcoming each person at the door with a smile. Her house will be remembered for the smell of the baked goods she would often prepare fresh each day. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Her family wants to thank the nurses and staff at the St. Joseph Living Center in Windham for their kind and compassionate care during her stay. Her family would also like to thank the doctors and staff at John A. Dequattro Cancer Center in Manchester and the visiting nurses of the Visiting Nurses Association in Vernon.
Along with her husband of over 18 years, Clifford, she leaves her daughters, Leslie Hebert and her husband, Timothy, of Coventry, Karen Kuca and her husband, Richard, of Stafford, and Kim Fox of Houlton, ME; her grandchildren, Jessica Slater, Kayla Preston, Evan Hebert, Rhea Hebert, Autumn Fox, Jared Fox, Jacob Fox, and Abigail Fox; her great-grandchildren, Emma Boldi, and Morgan Preston; her brother, Leonard Kent of Southington; her step-daughters, Deborah Marvin of Bolton, and Linda Krob and her husband, Allen, of Manchester; and three step-grandchildren; and her step-great-grandson, Jack Marvin; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews, including Jane Mailhoit, whom she spent a lot of time with. Four sisters, two brothers, and two step-grandchildren predeceased her.
Her family received friends on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 214 New Bolton Rd., Manchester, CT, on June 16, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private at the request of her family.
