Local athletes and coaches gain all-conference recognition

The Penobscot Valley Conference’s all-conference and all-academic teams for the spring sports season include several athletes from Caribou and Presque Isle.

In Class B tennis, Caribou’s Gabrielle Marquis was named Girls Player of the Year and the Vikings’ Parker Deprey was the Boys Player of the Year. John Habeeb of Caribou was named co-coach of the year for both the girls and boys.

Marquis headed up the Class B girls’ first team in singles, joining teammate Ashley Matlock. Ciara Richards and Madison Stratton made the first team for doubles. Kyra Thibeault and Samantha Tourk made the second team in doubles, while Hailey Holmquist earned honorable mention.

For Class B boys, Deprey was joined by Andre Daigle of Presque Isle on the first team for singles. Bailey Griffeth and Sawyer Deprey made the doubles first team. Emerson Duplissie-Cyr and Seth Beidelman earned a berth on the doubles second team and Alec Cyr made honorable mention.

Making the All-Academic team for girls were Caribou’s Thibeault, Matlock, Marquis and Richards, while Cyr, Beidelman and Duplissie-Cyr made it for boys.

In softball, Savannah Rodriguez of Presque Isle and Jaelynn Doody of Caribou both made the Class B second team.

Kaytlin Waldemarson of the Vikings and Kiara Lyford of the Wildcats were All-Academic choices.

In baseball, Presque Isle’s R.J. Gross and Jonah Hudson joined Caribou’s Camden Huck on the second team. Making the all-academic team were Caribou’s Matthew Nadeau, Daniel Randolph, Noah Frost, Makenzie Conroy and Jacob Marker.

The track and field all-conference squads have also been announced. For large schools, Presque Isle’s Kamryn Gilmour made the girls’ second team in the 1,600-meter racewalk and teammate Madelyn Wing also made the second team in the discus.

For small schools, Caribou was well represented. For girls, the 4×400 relay team of Willow Whitten, Monica McLaughlin, Meagan Dube and Alexis Rodriguez made the first team. Rodriguez was a first-teamer in the high jump and the 1,600-meter run and McLaughlin in the javelin.

McLaughlin made it onto the second team in the 400, Rodriguez in the 800, Emily Austin in the racewalk and Whitten in the 300 hurdles. Caribou’s 4×100 relay team of Rachel Ring, Emma Stewart, Dube and JoJo Fields and the 4×800 relay team of Edie Shea, Stewart, Maren Moir and Ashley Violette were also on the second team. Moir made it in the high jump, Brianna Reece in the discus and Hope Shea in the javelin.

On the boys side, first-team selections included Cory Jandreau in the 400, Evan Desmond in the 1,600 and the racewalk, the 4×400 relay team (Jandreau, Calvin Mokler, Desmond and Isaac Marker), the 4×800 relay team (Tom Pinette, Aaron Macek, Mokler and Dylan Marrero), Evan Michaud in the pole vault and Davis Levesque in the javelin.

The second team consisted of the Vikings’ Desmond and Marrero in the 800, Jordan Duplessie in the 3,200, Martin Heald in the racewalk, Caleb Libby in the 110 hurdles, the 4×100 relay team (Liam McMillon, Marker, Jandreau and Michaud), Chris Parent in the high jump, and Jandreau in the pole vault.

All-academic track athletes from Caribou include Evan Desmond, Meagan Dube, Apollo Grondin, Trevor Hale, Jessica Limary, Liam McMillon, Calvin Mokler, Anya O’Meara, Rachel Ring, Hope Shea and Nicholas Sleeper. Presque Isle’s representatives on the all-academic team are Maxwell Bartley and Elizabeth Deschenes.
