CARIBOU, Maine — Inglorious Batters followed up their first-place finish during the regular season with a tournament championship in the Caribou-Presque Isle Men’s Softball League.

Inglorious Batters defeated Performance Printing/Lakeview in extra innings, 5-4, to claim the title Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Paul Soucie Memorial Field.

Corey Bourgoin blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to give Performance Printing/Lakeview a fast start, but Inglorious Batters tied it with a run in the second on Ken Cameron’s RBI single and another in the fourth on a hit by Tony Garreans.

Inglorious Batters took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth, with A.J. Edgecomb scoring the tie-breaking run, but it was short lived as Performance Printing/Lakeview’s Dan Umphrey drove in Abe Desjardins to knot the score in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom half of the inning, Ben Buckley had the clutch hit for Inglorious Batters to knock in a run and make it 4-3, but Bourgoin struck his second homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game again.

With the score still deadlocked in the bottom of the eighth, Chad Lavway provided the heroics for Inglorious Batters with a double to drive home teammate Ethan Doody for the walkoff win.

Performance Printing/Lakeview had advanced to the finals with an 11-7 triumph over County Boys.
