CARLTON D. CONE, HOULTON – Carlton D. Cone, 75, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at a Houlton hospital. He was born on September 16, 1942, in Houlton, the son of Henry and Margaret (McCready) Cone Sr.
Carlton grew up in Hodgdon and attended local schools. He was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1963 – 1965. Part of that time was as a combat soldier in Vietnam. On September 9, 1967, he married Elizabeth Wright and together they would raise three children. Carlton loved to sell things and he worked for many years selling home appliances. Carlton was a life member of the American Legion, V.F.W. where he served as a chaplain, and AMVETS where he served as captain. He loved animals, kids, and especially babies. He enjoyed playing Santa and interacting with the kids.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Cone of Houlton; three children, Penny Cone of Houlton, Beth Smith and her husband, Herbert, of Iowa, and Matthew Cone and his wife, Tina, of Freeport; eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Carlton also leaves behind five siblings, Arthur Cone, Shirley Reed, Henry “Milo” Cone Jr., Linda Plourde, and Linwood Cone; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Charlotte Cone, and an infant niece, Charlotte Cone.
Friends called from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018, at the Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass Of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, with the Revs. Kent Ouellette and David Raymond celebrants. Interment with military honors took place immediately following the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Smyrna St. The family invited relatives and friends to a reception at the Parish Center following the committal.
