HOULTON, Maine — Another business is closing its doors in the Shiretown as Olympia Sports revealed it would be shutting down its Houlton location.
Signs that went up earlier this week in the window of the North Street location are advertising a “Store Closing Sale.” Another sign inside the store near the cash register states: “All sales are final.”
Employees at the business Friday morning could not comment on the store closure and referred questions to the outlet’s human resources manager, Joanne Kenny. Attempts to reach Kenny for comment Friday morning were not successful.
No final date has been announced for when the store will officially close, but store employees indicated it would probably be sometime near the end of December.
The closure of the sporting goods store comes just one month after Dunn Furniture, located adjacent to Olympia Sports, closed its doors after more than 100 years in business and leaves just two businesses — Rite Aid and Dollar Tree — in the plaza.
Olympia Sports opened in Houlton in April 2011. The closing will not impact the Presque Isle store at the present time.
