Washburn seeks help to host traveling Vietnam wall

WASHBURN, Maine — Since the renewed interest in a proper Veterans Park in Washburn, the Rotary Club of Washburn has been working with American Legion Post 48 and Scout Troop 177 to make it happen.

Washburn August Festival organizers attempted to bring the Vietnam Veteran Traveling Wall to the 2018 festival because of the veteran-themed weekend, but the display was not available.

The Wall is available for next year’s August Festival, slated Aug. 16-18, 2019.  In order to reserve the dates, the group must submit $4,000 with their request.

“The Rotary Club of Washburn is asking the greater Aroostook County community to help with this venture,” said Cindy Richendollar, past president and current treasurer of the Washburn Rotary Club. “It is an important part of our Armed Forces history which has touched many families, and is a tribute to those patriots who have sacrificed life and limb for our freedom.”

The exhibit will be available for viewing 24 hours a day throughout the entire festival, from setup on Thursday night until Sunday afternoon.

“Any monetary donation will be gratefully accepted,” Richendollar stated. “Time is of the essence.”

Those wishing to help may send donations to Rotary Club of Washburn, P.O. Box 471, Washburn, ME 04786.   Please note “Vietnam Wall.”
