DANFORTH, Maine — East Grand students of all ages recently took part in an appreciation day to thank local landowner Pat Cowger, who along with his wife Ruthanne, donated land adjacent to the school for the purpose of developing an outdoor classroom.

Recognizing the need to get kids moving and active in the outdoors, the classroom is helping with that goal of connecting students of all ages in the outdoors, according to Dave Conley, one of the instructors in the program.

During the day, students took part in a several-mile long hike on local woods roads and trails, while other pressed apple cider, built a campfire for heating the cider, and made refreshments to serve during the outdoor gathering. Students presented Pat Cowger with a “Thank You” poster and expressed their appreciation for the donation of land.
