Hornet fall athletes receive special awards

ASHLAND, Maine — Athletes participating in varsity golf, varsity girls’ soccer and varsity boys’ soccer at Ashland District School were recognized during the fall sports awards program held Nov. 15. 

The varsity golf team, coached by Jordan Beaulier, won the Aroostook League championship and qualified for the Class C state championship tournament. Special award winners from the season were Sean Montpetit, Coach’s Award; Jack Routhier and Alden Routhier, Most Improved Golfers; and Graham Berry, Most Valuable Golfer.

Coach Trevor Hews’ boys varsity soccer team reached the Class D North playoffs as the 14th seed, but lost in the preliminary round to No. 3 Woodland. Drew Doughty captured the Coach’s Award, Weston Robinson received the Team Leader Award and Lucien Hammond was named the Most Improved Player.

The girls varsity soccer team, coached by Peter Belskis, finished second in Class D North and beat Fort Fairfield in the quarterfinals and Madawaska in the semifinals before losing to No. 1 Central Aroostook in the regional championship in a match that went into overtime. Kassandra Nelson and Olivia Tardie were the co-Most Valuable Players, while Shelby Stolze was named Offensive Player of the Year and Mia Carney captured the Spirit Award.
