After one year, Limestone hires permanent town manager

LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone officials have hired Elizabeth Dickerson as the town’s new manager, ending a year-long period of temporary managers during the search for a suitable candidate.

Dickerson is a Maine native who previously served on the Rockland City Council and in the Maine Legislature representing her hometown of Rockland as well as Owl’s Head.  For the past four years, Dickerson has lived in Colorado and stated via email that she is looking forward to coming back to Maine and to a career of service to the people of this state.

Paul Beaulieu will continue to serve as interim manager while Dickerson arranges the move from Colorado. Beaulieu confirmed via email that Dickerson was hired on Friday, Dec. 21.

During an executive session on Dec. 19 members of the Select Board considered “the appointment and hiring of a town manager,” according to the agenda. However, no action was taken after the private session as the officials had not yet received a signed contract, according to Beaulieu.

“I’m just so happy,” Dickerson told the Aroostook Republican Friday as she confirmed accepting the job. “If I could just jump on a trailer and truck and be gone right now I would. I have so many dear friends here [in Colorado], but there are so many opportunities in northern Maine. I feel like the winds are changing and good things are happening.”

Even though she is still in Colorado, Dickerson said she has already received calls from Limestone residents asking her if she is going to be the new town manager.

Dickerson learned about the position through the Maine Municipal Association website, which she had been monitoring as she had “been wanting to come home for a while.”

Limestone wasn’t the only town she contacted, but she said her interviews with the town’s Select Board members “just felt right.”

Dickerson said she plans on arriving in Maine between Jan. 8 and 16.
