HOULTON, Maine — Houlton Fire Chief Milton Cone recognized current and former employees of his department during a brief Town Council meeting on Monday evening.

Cone told councilors that he passed out recognition coins and awards at the department’s annual dinner last week.

He said a number or employees have worked for the department for 15 years or more, including D.J. Norton Jr, Dana Lapointe, Kevin Harris, Glen Targonski, Robert Hannigan, James Brown, Fred Craig, Glenn Miller, David Beals, Brian Beals and Michael Beals.

The chief also paid special tribute to Leland Cyr, who retired last year from the fire department after 40 years of service.

“I joined the department in 1977,” Cone said. “And the next year, I asked a friend of mine to join. He agreed to do it, and in the years after that, he always did anything that I wanted him to do.”

That friend, Cyr, retired on Oct. 1, 2018.

Cone, who is the department’s longest serving employee at 41 years, said he was grateful to everyone who supported the department.

In other business, councilors approved a victualer’s license for Heather Roberts, who is doing business at Mainely Rustique, located at 66 North Street.

Councilors also reappointed Priscilla Monroe as a member of the planning board for a five-year term and Cathy O’Leary as registrar of voters.
