FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host peace activist and The Free Hugs Project creator, Ken E. Nwadike Jr., on Thursday, April 4, at 7pm in Fox Auditorium. The public is invited to this fun event.
In this fun, creative and interactive program, Nwadike brings his “Free Hugs Project” to engage participants in conversations of understanding and compassion. Nwadike discusses topics of difference and division; his goal is to create unity and build community wherever he goes.
“We are always looking for ways to create conversation on our campus and in the community,” said UMFK President John Short. “Mr. Nwadike is a fun, engaging presenter who is renowned for his motivational abilities. He is to be commended on his ability to spread happiness and inspire change.”
Nwadike is a peace activist, video journalist and YouTube personality best known as the “Free Hugs Guy.” His “Free Hugs” videos have reached hundreds of millions of views on social media. As a former homeless student athlete, Nwadike overcame many challenges to now own Superhero Events — an event production company that raises funds and awareness for homeless teens in America.
This event is free to the public, though monetary donations will be accepted, and all ages are encouraged to attend. All donations will directly benefit UMFK’s Stacy’s Closet, a project aimed at alleviating barriers for all campus students who lack financial means to purchase basic, everyday necessities such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.
