Wood carvers, artists invited to state competition May 25 and 26

NORTHPORT, Maine — The Maine Coast Carving and Art Competition will be held this year at a new location and at a new time of year.

Sponsored by the Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association, the competition will be held this year at the Blue Goose Center in Northport over Memorial Day weekend, May 25 and 26.  The public is invited to view this show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Carvers, artists and photographers must enter their pieces on Friday, May 24, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. or on Saturday, May 25, from 7 to 9 a.m.  Levels of competition include youth, novice, intermediate, open and masters. Entry fees are $5 for youth, $7 for novice, intermediate and open, and $12 for masters.

In the art and photography categories, pictures must be either wildlife or coastal scenery.

Raffles will take place for a loon carved by Frank Solari of Cushing and a bufflehead drake by Steve Moody of Waldo.  Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
