Credit union supports volunteer center

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Agency on Aging recently received a $5,000 donation from The County Federal Credit Union to support the development of The County Volunteer Center at the new Aroostook Aging & Disability Resource Center in Presque Isle.

“Credit unions live by the philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ We are unique, not-for-profit, financial institutions cooperatively owned by their members and guided by volunteers,” said Ryan Ellsworth, CFCU’s president and CEO.

“As a not-for-profit organization, volunteers play important roles in our success. Therefore, making a donation for a dedicated volunteer area and resource center that will serve our entire region was a very easy decision that we could get behind and support,” he said. “We are confident that this new dedicated area with become the epicenter of activity for volunteers throughout The County.”

The County Volunteer Center is a gathering place for volunteers to receive training, work on projects and network. The center offers Aroostook Retired and Senior Volunteer Program volunteers a first-of-its-kind resource in Aroostook County.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, as well as many other non-profits in Aroostook County,” said Rev. Dr. Kenneth Phelps, president of the agency board of directors. “As the sponsoring agency for the Aroostook RSVP, we are committed to ensuring volunteers have access to the support and training needed for them to make a difference in their community. We are pleased to have The County Federal Credit Union join in this effort.”

Focused on improving access to services, the Aroostook Agency on Aging relocated to a new location at 260 Main Street in Presque Isle in January. The new location houses the Aroostook RSVP offices, as well as dedicated space for community support and education.

Aroostook RSVP currently has over 400 volunteers enrolled to support over 50 community organizations throughout The County.
