Oakfield seniors gather for Aug. 7 meeting

OAKFIELD, Maine — Due to change of plans, the Oakfield Seniors met at the Smoki-Haulers Snowmobile clubhouse in Oakfield Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The buffet tables were loaded with a great selection of potluck dishes, so there was no reason for anyone to leave hungry. All reports were read and accepted.

Jann led the singing of Happy Birthday to Earl Doughty. Marie Gillotti was the winner of the 50/50. Jann read the word by word meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance by Red Skelton — makes you stop and think .

Our guest was Pastor Naomi Sami Kpakna who shared some of her experiences while she was in Africa. She also was a pastor in Houlton for many years.

Upcoming events in the area are Aug. 17 in Smyrna will be Blast From the Past from noon to 6 p.m.  There will be food available with lobsters leading the way. An auction, antique cars and other activities so come and enjoy it all.

On Aug. 24 at the Bandstand in Oakfield there will be a concert featuring Jann starting with their famous hotdogs and homemade french fries so be sure to attend. The event starts at 5 pm.

Attending our meeting were: Arlene Friel, Marie Gillotti, Alberta McDonald, Bernice Campbell, Don and Charlotte Marley, Earl and Lottie Doughty, Mildred Gagnon, Wannetta Townsend, George Barrow, Jeanne Clements, Betty McGary, Judy Williams, Jim and Helen Blois, Iona Nadeau, Kathleen Boutilier, Jann Votaw and guest Pastor Naomi Sami Kpakna.

The Oakfield Seniors meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month, with a potluck lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting and entertainment. All seniors are invited to join us. Call Alberta McDonald 757-8052 for more information.
