17-year-old driver strikes pedestrian while adjusting the radio

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A 17-year-old male driver struck a woman with his car on Wednesday night while adjusting the radio, according to a press release from Presque Isle Police Department on Thursday. 

The pedestrian, identified as Katherine Asam of Presque Isle, was attempting to cross at the intersection of Dudley and State Street around 9 p.m. The driver reportedly “averted his attention to the radio to adjust it,” and when he looked up, she was already crossing the street and was struck, the press release stated. 

Asam was transported to A.R. Gould Hospital with broken bones while the driver sustained no injuries. 

The department is investigating the accident.
