CROUSEVILLE, Maine — The Washburn and Presque Isle police departments responded on Saturday, Oct. 5, to a vehicle accident that occurred when a 25-year-old male driver struck a utility pole.

Sergeant Jarad Carney of the Washburn Police Department said Monday that the crash occurred at 6:16 a.m. on Saturday at a pole in front of the Crouseville post office.

Carney said the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel while heading to his workplace in Presque Isle. He received only minor injuries and was treated by ambulance crews at the scene of the crash.

At this time, Carney said, the driver is not being identified because the police department has not yet obtained permission to use his name.

Crews from Emera Maine remained at the site throughout the day Saturday to replace the utility pole, which fell after being struck by the vehicle.
