Easton boys soccer defeat SAHS 6-0 in preliminary game

EASTON, Main — The No. 5 Easton boys soccer faced off against No. 12 Southern Aroostook in a Class D North preliminary game Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, and emerged victorious 6-0. 

With the win, the Bears will travel to No. 4 Hodgdon for a 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for a quarterfinal contest with the Hawks. The two teams did not face each other during the regular season. 

In Saturday’s game, Easton (10-3-2) started out strong in the first half, scoring five goals against SA. Easton’s Austin Carver scored off an assist by Owen Sweeney with 29 minutes left in the first half. Shortly after, Carver secured a second goal, putting the Bears up 2-0.  

Kooper Kinney scored with 11:55 remaining in the first half with an assist from Sweeney and Carver scored a third goal before the halftime break. With seven second left in the first half, Matthew Pangburn of Easton, scored the fifth goal of the night, unassisted. 

The final goal happened with 33:40 left in the game when Camden Michaud scored on a pass from Kinney. 

“We were pretty focused coming out of the gate. We moved the ball well which helped us wear Southern Aroostook out a bit. I was happy with our pace of play.  We have a few adjustments to make, but we are moving in the right direction at the right time,” said Easton head coach, Ryan Shaw. 

Carter made 8 saves for Easton against Jacob Brooks’ 14 saves for Southern Aroostook.  

Southern Aroostook finished its season at 6-8-1.
