HOULTON, Maine — A 22-year-old Houlton man was arrested for operating under the influence and assaulting a police officer following an automobile crash on North Street Wednesday evening.

According to Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca, Noah W. Blake of Houlton was arrested at 7:14 p.m. after police responded to a head-on collision near the Houlton Shopping Plaza.

“The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2004 Dodge pickup, operated by Noah W. Blake of Houlton, was southbound on the North Road when he substantially crossed the centerline striking two northbound vehicles,” Chief DeLuca stated in the press release. “Although all vehicles were substantially damaged, no major injuries were reported.”

During the investigation, Blake reportedly became combative with Houlton Police Officer Shane Campbell and the assisting deputy, resulting in a physical altercation. The officers secured Blake and transported him to Houlton Regional Hospital for possible injuries and a suspected high level of intoxication.

During the physical altercation, both Officer Campbell and the deputy sustained minor injuries.

Later at the Aroostook County Jail, Blake was charged with two counts of assault on an officer; operating under the influence; and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

Houlton Police Department was assisted by the Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and the Houlton Fire Department. The incident remains under investigation. Police did not identify the drivers of the two other vehicles damaged in the crash.
