FORT KENT, Maine — Ushering in 2020 and a new decade, Northern Maine Medical Center introduced its first baby of 2020 on Jan. 2 and extended warm congratulations to the family.
Izaiah Peter Cyr-Pizarro was born, under the care of Dr. Kristin Hartt, to Dee Cyr of Madawaska. Izaiah arrived at 8:57 a.m. weighing in at 7 pounds, 1.9 ounces, the brother to a 2-year-old sibling.
In keeping with a long-standing St. John Valley tradition, the first baby of the new year received a gift basket, valued at over $1,200, filled with baby supplies, clothing, toys and services. Donors of the gifts included the hospital, Acadian Quilters, Fish River Rural Health, NMMC Guild, Fort Kent Police and Fire departments, the Firefighters’ Association, and public works and municipal employees, along with several area businesses and individuals.
In addition to the distinction of being one of the first babies born in 2020, Izaiah will be awarded a $500 Alfond Grant. The newborn could also be one of the first Alfond Grant recipients to benefit from a NextGen 529 $100 Initial Matching Grant.
