CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9389 Auxiliary recently held their annual patriotic coloring contest at Teague Park Elementary School, and members visited the school for an awards ceremony.

A total of 63 second-grade students participated.

Auxiliary members gave a special thank-you to the teachers at Teague Park for allowing them to tell the students about patriotism and the American flag.

Yvonne Theriault, Americanism chairwoman, shared a report with the group about the flag to educate students, including how to display the flag properly, what to do and what not to do with the flag, and how to dispose of a flag respectfully.

Lisa Michaud, VFW Auxiliary president, and Anne Mullen presented awards. Each student received a Young American certificate, a patriotic coloring book, a pencil with the Pledge of Allegiance on it and an American flag.

The top 10 students also received certificates, with the top three also receiving a monetary award.

Mylan Gagnon won first place, with Sofia Linsey earning second and Brooklyn Boutot coming in third.

Honorable mention went to Jackson Belanger, Liam Cyr, Benaiah Lajoie, Angel Mondello, Joseph Neece, Dylan Nightingale and Raegan Philbrook.
