Tractor trailer strikes Interstate 95 bridge support

SLAND FALLS, Maine — Poor weather and road conditions were cited as contributing factors in a tractor trailer truck smashing into a concrete bridge support on Interstate 95 Saturday evening.

Maine State Police Trooper Hunter Cotton said that Rodney Gladstone, 66, of New Brunswick was traveling south on I-95, near mile marker 276 in Island Falls, when he lost control of a 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer truck around 7:50 p.m.

Cotton said the driver lost control of his rig due to poor weather and road conditions. Speed was also cited in the report as a factor.

The force of the impact with the bridge support broke the trailer portion into two pieces and damaged about 100 yards of guard rails.

The driver suffered minor injuries and the rig had to be towed from the scene. A Maine Department of Transportation bridge inspector was called to evaluate the bridge.

No charges were filed in the incident.
