LITTLETON, Maine — Excessive speed and alcohol were cited by police as contributing factors in a single vehicle rollover on U.S. Route 1 Monday evening.

Kody White, 26, of Bridgewater was eastbound on Wiley Road in a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer around 7:15 p.m. when he reportedly failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. Route 1, according to Aroostook County Sheriff Shawn Gillen. White lost control of his vehicle, which rolled onto its roof.

A witness called 9-1-1 and reported that two occupants were trapped inside the vehicle. But when police arrived, only the driver was in the vehicle. Gillen said the driver claimed he was alone in the vehicle.

Deputy Benjamin Boutilier determined that White failed to stop at the intersection and lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll over. White was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Houlton Regional Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

White was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Deputy Boutilier was assisted on scene by Maine State Police, Border Patrol, Littleton Fire Department and Houlton Fire Department. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Westerdahl’s Towing.
