WESTFIELD, Maine — A tractor-trailer crash caused by slush on the road in Westfield briefly left part of Route 1 closed off on Monday.

Maine State Police said Howard Davenport, of Philadelphia, was northbound on Route 1 in Westfield at around 7:25 a.m. when slush on the road caused him to lose control of his 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer.

Authorities said Davenport began to slide before his vehicle “jackknifed,” further sliding into a ditch and blocking a section of the road.

Davenport was not injured, but police said the truck had minor damage. The truck is owned by Blue Diamond Transportation, a Presque Isle-based interstate trucking company

Police said the affected part of Route 1 was closed for a short time while Impact Auto recovered the vehicle from the ditch.

Maine State Police said Houlton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
