75 Years Ago – May  10, 1945

Press down — The Republican wishes to express its appreciation to Editor Kingdom Harvey of the Fort Fairfield Review, through whose cooperation the paper was printed last week after the local press broke down.

Freak snowstorm ties up transportation — A wet heavy snow fell in a May Day snowstorm. Cars and trucks were stranded everywhere on the surrounding country roads. Eighteen-inch drifts accumulated in several places.

50 Years Ago – May 13, 1970

Colony Queen to reign at New Sweden Centennial — The Colony Queen Committee of the New Sweden Centennial Organization has selected Marvin Jacobs as emcee for the July 22 Queen selection and coronation ceremonies at Thomas Park.

Business celebrates 35th year Northeastern Supply Co., dealers in propane and carburetor gas, are holding an open house this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, marking their 35th year of doing business in Caribou.

25 Years Ago – May 10, 1995

Madawaska River Run The Stockholm American Legion is sponsoring the 15th annual Madawaska River Run on May 21. This race, popular with canoeists and spectators, will consist of seven categories of racing. There will be free T-shirts to all entrants, and trophies will be awarded to all winners.

Limestone Rotary Club honors elderly Nearly 100 of Limestone’s senior citizens and Meals on Wheels volunteers were treated to an evening  of dinner and entertainment sponsored by the Limestone Rotary Club April 27. Ninety-two guests gathered for the event.
