PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — More than 1,700 people in the Presque Isle and Caribou areas experienced outages after heavy snow and strong winds on Saturday, said a Emera Maine representative on Sunday.

Power went out on Saturday and there were outages remaining on Sunday. Nearly 800 in the Presque Isle-area were still experiencing outages as of 3 p.m. on Sunday.

An outage resulting from a broken utility pole in the Woodland area on Saturday night affected more than 500 customers.

On Sunday morning, damage to another utility pole affected more than 1,200 Emera customers in Presque Isle, Mapleton and Washburn.

The National Weather Service Office in Caribou had estimated that Presque Isle, Houlton and Caribou-areas would receive seven to eight inches from Friday night to Sunday morning. The St. John Valley was expected to receive four to six inches.
