Healthy You starts summer challenges

As summer and nicer weather begin, Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You program announces the launch of two self-paced community challenges.

Participants are invited to join in 100 Miles & Ways in 100 Days as of June 15.

According to Bethany Zell, Healthy You program director at Cary, “Over the course of 100 days, we will challenge, encourage and equip you to connect with your personal health and wellness, each other (with proper physical distancing precautions) and the outdoors.”

These challenges are a means for connecting people with information and encouragement to help keep them motivated toward better health and wellness as Aroostook County starts the slow process of reopening.

“Our 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge is back by popular demand for a 2020 reboot with fun prizes, giveaways and wellness information to keep you motivated in remaining physically active for your health and wellness,” Zell said.

A daily walk can reduce depression, strengthen bones, improve balance and even reduce your risk for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

“After several months of staying ‘safe at home’ and perhaps less physically active, our hope is that by participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, community members will begin incorporating a daily walk into their lifestyle,” said Bill Flagg, director of community relations and development at Cary Medical Center.

“By registering for the 100 Miles and 100 Days challenge at carymedicalceter.org, you will receive a weekly email with walking tips and qualify for weekly drawings and giveaways by logging miles through the online form or one of the other methods outlined on the website event page. Those who complete 100 miles within the 100-day challenge timeframe will also be eligible for our grand prize drawing of a $250 gift card courtesy of our generous sponsors and partners,” said Flagg.

The second challenge, 100 Ways to Wellness, will help participants learn 100 simple ways to move toward improved health and wellness with daily challenges, easy action steps and fun giveaways to keep them motivated.

The program is completely self-paced, so participants decide how involved they want to be and how they receive their daily challenge information – by email, on the Healthy You Facebook page, in the private Healthy You Facebook group or by visiting the dedicated page on the Cary Medical Center website.

“The 100 Ways to Wellness Challenge is designed for easy community access and flexibility with suggested daily health and wellness activities you can do from anywhere, on your own time schedule,” Zell said.

Community members can join the “Healthy You Health & Wellness Community” Facebook group to join in the conversation for extra accountability and to connect with others who have accepted the 100 Ways to Wellness Challenge. Visit carymedicalcenter.org/100ways for more information on how to participate.
