MAPLETON, Maine — Fire departments based in Mapleton and Washburn quickly extinguished a house fire in Mapleton on Saturday evening.

The Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Department responded to the fire call at 1841 State Road at around 6:11 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the house’s back doorway.

Firefighters from that department and the Washburn Fire Department quickly extinguished a fire around the back doorway area and contained damage to the kitchen.

There were no injuries and no one was home at the time of the fire. The residence, which is owned by Eugene Dow, was insured.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Department Capt. Robby Gross said.
