The Mapleton Elementary School reopening will occur on schedule unless there are changes in the pandemic in the state that will require changes
School will open for in-person learning with the following restrictions: One child per seat except for siblings; masks or face shields are required for students and staff; masks or face shields will be provided for anyone that needs one; students are encouraged to bring their own masks from home; masks will not be required when outside; and students will have regular mask breaks during the school day.
There will be three entrances used for entering and leaving. These entrances will be based on the students’ grade levels. The main/office entrance will be for pre-K and K students. Staff will assist students entering the building and guiding them to their classrooms. Staff will be monitoring the pre-K and K rooms.
The first-grade hall/computer entrance will be for first-, second-, and third-grade students. Staff will assist/direct students to their classrooms. Staff will supervise grades 1-3 classrooms. Students will be in their classrooms and will be offered breakfast.
Finally, the cafeteria entrance will be for the fourth- and fifth-grade students. Staff will supervise those classrooms as students enter and have breakfast. At the end of the day, students will leave their respective entrance doors.
Breakfast carts will be located near the classrooms for students to easily access. Lunch will be served to the students in their classrooms to minimize student transitions. On good weather days, some students will be able to eat outside.
Masks will be required for students and staff during the day with mask breaks provided during recess and meals. Hand hygiene stations will be placed at key locations in the building as well as all classrooms for students and staff to use regularly. A school nurse will be available in the school and students who express any ill symptoms will report to the nurse’s station and not to the office.
Regularly scheduled cleaning/disinfecting of desks, keyboards and screens will be implemented in each classroom, which will be cleaned regularly particularly when each room is empty. Custodial staff will routinely clean highly touched surfaces during and after school hours.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to call or email the main office to reduce people from entering the building. Entry into the building will be restricted, so please phone ahead or send a note for appointments and dismissal plans. The telephone number is 207-764-1589. No irregular or unscheduled visitors will be allowed in the school or classrooms. Visitors will be encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance and will be limited to critically important visitors determined by the principal.

The 2020 summer Little League season began on July 6 and will end on Aug. 15. The standings of the five-team league as the end of last week, July 31, is as follows:

The regular season ends this Thursday and the summer Little League tournament starts on Aug. 8 and ends on Aug. 15, 2020. There have been terrific crowds of family, friends and neighbors attending the games this year. Come on out and enjoy seeing the players in action.
