Presque Isle to install electric vehicle charging station at Riverside Pavilion

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine –Residents and visitors who drive electric vehicles will soon have a place to recharge their vehicles in the Star City.

On Wednesday, Aug. 5, Presque Isle director of economic and community development Galen Weibley announced that a citizen from downstate Maine has offered to donate an electric vehicle charging station.

The particular model that the donor has offered, a Clipper Creek Level Two HCS-40, is universally compatible with all models of electric vehicles. Weibley noted the importance of having the charging station in an area with ample parking and proximity to downtown, which is why he suggested the area near Riverside Pavilion.

Currently the only electric vehicle charging stations in Aroostook County are located at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, the Fort Kent Town Office, Caribou Inn & Convention Center in Caribou and Ivey’s Motor Lodge in Houlton.

Though the council did not officially vote on the matter, all councilors present noted their support for installing the charging station in Presque Isle to cater to the increase in electric vehicle sales.

“There’s a real future in [electric vehicles], so having something like this to enhance the city is wonderful,” councilor Craig Green said.
