Logging truck overturns in New Limerick

NEW LIMERICK, Maine — A 25-year-old Mapleton man avoided serious injuries early Thursday morning when the tractor trailer truck he was operating overturned.

Dustin Belanger was traveling west in a 2014 Peterbilt log truck on the County Road in New Limerick around 2:36 a.m. when an issue with the vehicle’s axle caused the truck to crash into a ditch and roll onto its side, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Josh Haines.

The truck, owned by Larry Belanger of Mapleton, was hauling a load of logs, which spilled into the ditch as a result of the crash.

Speed was not a factor and the driver was wearing his seatbelt, police said. Dustin Belanger suffered minor injuries in the crash, but was not transported to the hospital.

The Maine Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection assisted at the scene.
