MONTICELLO, Maine — A 42-year-old Caribou woman avoided serious injury after crashing her vehicle in Monticello Friday morning.

According to Maine State Police Sgt. Josh Haines, state police received a traffic complaint at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 28, regarding a vehicle that was driving erratically on U.S. Route 1 in Littleton. The caller stated a silver sedan was drifting into the opposite lane and also into the breakdown lane.

Before police could intercept the vehicle, the caller stated the vehicle had just crashed in Monticello.

Trooper Nick Casavant responded to the scene and discovered Marie O’Brien of Caribou had drifted off the road while traveling north on U.S. Route 1. O’Brien traveled across a private driveway, striking several lawn items, narrowly missing the residence and causing significant damage to the vehicle as well as the private property.

O’Brien was injured, but is expected to survive. She was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital by ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
