HOULTON, Maine — While most fast food restaurants around Houlton often offer little in the way of healthy options, Epic Vibes, a new store offering shakes and teas hopes to change that.
“The purpose behind it is to offer customers with a healthy alternative,” said Rosie Griffith, who owns Epic Vibes along with her husband Danny. “Our shakes are a complete meal. Plenty of protein that you need in a meal, and vitamins and minerals so the shakes are a good option for people on the go.”
In addition to shakes, the store also offers teas that are green teas based, meaning they contain zero sugar, making it another healthy option for busy parents or workers on the go. They also offer a wide variety of flavors to each drink, and the store often creates new ones to try out.
The Houlton Epic Vibes store is the fourth store that Griffith and her husband have opened, with the first one originating in Calais, where the couple resides. Since then, they have expanded to locations in Lincoln and Machias, with the Houlton location opening in September, around a year after the first store opening. Presently, the Houlton location does not offer indoor seating due to COVID-19 restrictions, but does have bar stools to sit on by the counter.
Despite the nearly long distance from Calais to Houlton, Griffith says traveling in between areas is worth it in order to provide people with nutritious meals.
“We wouldn’t jump into something if we didn’t know everything, the pros and the cons,” she said. “The need to help people outweighs a two-hour drive.”
