Catholic church to provide Thanksgiving Day meals

HOULTON, Maine — St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host a traditional turkey dinner for the public again this year on Thanksgiving Day, albeit in a slightly different format.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s meal will be in a drive-thru only format. Community members who would like a to-go dinner are asked to form a line with their cars at the back of the church. A representative from the church will come out to the vehicle to ask how many to-go dinners are needed and will bring the order to the vehicle.

This dinner is for anyone in the community. Those who are alone and do not want to cook a large meal, or are unable to afford a big dinner, can come to the church for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Church on Military Street.

In addition, the church will hold a Thanksgiving Day Mass, to celebrate the true meaning of the season, at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, the Mass is limited to 50 people.
