CASTLE HILL, Maine — A vehicle rollover in Castle Hill on Thanksgiving was the result of speed and icy road conditions, according to the Maine State Police.

At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, 19-year-old Kaylee Mejia of Portage Lake was driving her 2013 Toyota Corolla on State Road in Castle Hill when she lost control of her vehicle and veered toward the ditch on the right side of the road.

Mejia’s vehicle then slid down a 20-foot embankment, rolled over and came to a stop upside down in Demerchant Brook, with the driver’s cavity submerged in water, police said.

Mejia and her 18-year-old passenger, whose identity was not disclosed, were able to get out of the vehicle. Both had been wearing seatbelts and both had minor injuries.

The vehicle was a total loss.
