LIMESTONE and PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Loring Job Corps Center in Limestone recently donated nearly $2,500, proceeds from a unique fundraiser, to support a local organization.
During this past holiday season, the Job Corps team came together to show their continued gratitude and support to the local community during these uncertain times, and created a special event for employees and students alike to share in the experience of community and giving to others.
The center created the “Festival of Job Corps Trees,” and selected the Hope and Justice Project in Presque Isle, one of their long-standing partners, to receive funds raised by the project.
Each student career technical training area created their vision of a tree and tribute to their trade. The response, Job Corps staff said, was overwhelming. What began as a small idea on campus morphed into something greater.
Students and staff created displays that were far more than a representation of a holiday tradition. The experience created a sense of normalcy and celebration. Staff were able to donate funds by purchasing tickets to win a tree.
As momentum grew, Loring Job Corps Center’s corporate office, Career Systems Development Corporation, joined the effort and matched the funds raised by staff at Loring.
Team Loring presented a donation to Hope & Justice in the amount of $2,452.
“ We are so very grateful to all Aroostook County communities that continue to support Loring Job Corps,” said Kristie Moir, center director.
The Hope and Justice Project has supported Loring students for over a decade providing educational support, trainings, and workshops covering topics, such as teen dating and healthy relationships.
“The partnerships and level of engagement is heartfelt. We are so very pleased to recognize the Hope & Justice Project and give back to our community,” Moir said.
