PI girls finish unbeaten in regular season

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Wildcats, the top-seeded girls team in the Class B/C division, wrapped up an unbeaten regular season with victories over Fort Kent Thursday and Caribou Saturday.

Coach Jeff Hudson’s team displayed its 3-point shooting attack and showed excellent scoring balance in both contests. The Wildcats nailed 10 threes en route to a 62-26 victory in Fort Kent, and then hit nine more in a 59-29 home triumph over Caribou.

In Thursday’s matchup, Faith Sjoberg netted all 17 of her points in the first half as PI bolted to a 36-9 lead and cruised to the win. Sjoberg had four 3-pointers and Meg Casavant tallied three for all nine of her points. Twelve of the team’s 13 players scored.

Larissa Daigle led the Warriors with 16 points.

In the most recent game, the Wildcats used a 19-6 run in the third quarter to run away from their rivals on Senior Day. Casavant (two 3s) scored 10 points, Jenna Sargent hit three 3-point field goals for her nine, Julianna Morningstar (two 3s) tossed in eight and Rhylee Kinney had seven. The foursome was part of an all-senior starting lineup which also included Hattie Bubar (two points). Once again, 12 of the team’s 13 players reached the scoring column.

Emily Collins paced the Vikings with 10 points, while Ashlyn Bouchard and Sage Dubay had nine and eight, respectively.
