County communities proactively planning with assistance from Aroostook County EMA

Aroostook County EMA wants to ensure that communities can provide local shelters in the event they are needed.

Using funds from the Department of Homeland Security, communities are provided small caches of shelter equipment to assist with meeting those needs.

County EMA Director Darren Woods stated, “Communities that choose to work with our training programs have the opportunity to learn how to set up and operate local shelters at no cost to them.  Once they agree to take that training, they are put on a list to receive sheltering equipment to be pre-staged in their community.”

The first communities to take advantage of this program are, Portage Lake, Fort Fairfield, Caribou, Wallagrass and Easton.

Questions on this or any EMA program can be directed to the Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency at 207-493-4328.
