PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension Aroostook County will be giving away cherry tomato seedlings from 10 a.m.–noon on Saturday, June 5, at the Aroostook Centre Mall parking lot, 830 Main St., Presque Isle, as part of the One Tomato Project.
Additional seedlings will be delivered to families in Fort Kent and Houlton as part of this county-wide event.
All are invited to come to pick up their tomato plant and a growing guide. This drive-thru event will be hosted by Extension Homemakers, Aroostook 4-Hers, and members of the UMaine Extension staff.
Extension Homemakers is a volunteer group that develops leadership skills, supports community causes, and promotes Extension’s educational programs. Homemakers from Caribou and New Sweden will be available to answer questions about planting and caring for tomato seedlings.
In 4‑H, kids and teens complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and civic engagement in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles.
