Southern Aroostook Community School students graduating with top honors for the class of 2021

DYER BROOK, Maine — RSU 50 Superintendent/Principal Jon Porter has announced the following students will be graduating with honors for the Class of 2021 from Southern Aroostook Community School.

Delaney Greenlaw and Wyatt Harthorne are graduating Magna Cum Laude (3.4-3.75 GPA). 

Greenlaw, the daughter of Jill and Travis Hogan and Aaron Greenlaw, is a member of the Southern Aroostook Chapter of the National Honor Society. She was selected as a delegate to represent SACS at Dirigo Girls State; was chosen to attend the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference; and also earned the DAR Good Citizens Award Winner.

Greenlaw has earned numerous academic awards and attended the annual Houlton Rotary Luncheon for her outstanding academic achievement and leadership. She is currently serving as class president and is a member of the Yearbook committee. She has actively participated in SACS Dollars for Scholars and participated in TRIO for all four years of high school. Greenlaw also played varsity soccer for the last four years and varsity cheerleading, serving as team captain during her senior season.

Greenlaw has given back to her community through her service work which includes assisting with the SACS Community Service Day, volunteering at the SACS Clothing Drive and volunteering at the SACS Food Pantry 

She also works part-time at Birch Point Campground and Jerry’s Foodstore located in Island Falls. Her future plans are to attend the University of Maine to earn a degree in nursing.  She also has plans to earn a master’s degree in nursing and a minor in either psychology or business. After college, she would like to pursue a career as a nurse in a psychiatric facility, a critical care unit, or work in hospital administration.   

Harthorne, the son of Andrew and Cher Harthorne of Dyer Brook, is a member of the SACS Chapter of the National Honor Society. He was selected as a delegate to represent the school at Dirigo Boys State; was selected to attend the Maine Youth Leadership Conference when he was a sophomore; and was also chosen as the Maine Principals Award recipient for SACS.

He is a Presidential Scholar Nominee and currently serves as the Class of 2021 vice president. Harthorne has earned numerous academic awards and attended the annual Houlton Rotary Luncheon for his outstanding academic achievement and leadership. He also has actively participated in SACS Dollars for Scholars.   

Harthorne participated in the school band, earning All Aroostook Band Honors for six years. He has also played in the church band at Dyer Brook Community Church for the past eight years.  A skilled saxophone player who has played the National Anthem at several basketball games, Harthorne also played varsity soccer for two seasons.  

He is active in the community through volunteer projects such as the Southern Aroostook “Share the Warmth” Clothing Drive, the SACS food pantry, and he also volunteered at many church events. Harthorne has worked at Va Jo Wa Golf Course in Island Falls and is currently working part-time at Donahue’s Maintenance and Masonry in Houlton.

Harthorne will attend the University of Maine to major in kinesiology and physical education with the goal of being a physical education teacher. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, especially duck and turkey hunting.  

The following students will be graduating Cum Laude (3.0-3.4) from SACS this spring: Rose Arnts, Jacob Brooks, Hannah Brown, Kacy Daggett, Lucas Duff, Collin Grant, Dominick Grant, Shaylin Lindsay, Emma Nadeau, and Paige Vose.
