HOULTON, Maine — The RSU 29 Education Association, under the direction of President Katie Wright, recently presented new sneakers to three students at Houlton Elementary School for their participation in a coloring contest.

This year’s recipients are: Dottie Norton, Cartter Stewart and Kenneth Merrill.

The “Good Works Fund” is a budgeted part of the local association. It is funded solely by member dues and member donations and has provided charitable community contributions such as: loaded backpacks for the Rotary Auction, Books in the Park, scholarships for college-bound seniors, and the sneaker give-a-way.

“For many years we have greatly appreciated Cole’s Shoe Store’s partnership with the association, as they matched our donation to provide sneakers for local students,” Wright said. “This year, in response to what may have been a hard year for a small business, the Association felt that we wanted to give back, so we bought the sneakers at full price to show our support and thanks for their generosity over the years.”
