Maine DOT to install count sensors along Route 1 in Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing count sensors along Houlton’s North Street on Wednesday, July 21, a move likely to affect both northbound and southbound traffic throughout the day.

The Maine DOT uses the count sensors to collect data on the number of vehicles that use the highway throughout the year. The data is included in the DOT’s yearly traffic reports.

The work will take place near the intersection of Route 1 and Currier Road and begin at 7 a.m. Northbound traffic will be affected during the first half of the day, with work shifting to the southbound side later in the afternoon. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the day.

In case of inclement weather, the work will instead occur on the next day, Thursday, July 22.
