CARIBOU, Maine — For a second time Jamie Leavitt of Millinocket captured the Overall Men’s Winner title at the 37th annual Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament held at the Caribou Country Club on Saturday, July 10.

Almost 100 golfers from throughout northern Maine turned out for the one-day, play your own ball tournament. Leavitt won the $300 grand prize for the men’s Division I with a low gross score of 68.

Emily Jose of Caribou continued her dominance in the Ladies Division I, and earned the $300 prize by finishing with a low gross score of 85.

In addition to cash, the winners were presented with engraved glass bowls and glassware commemorating the 37th tournament.

The tourney serves as the largest fundraising event for the Jefferson Cary Foundation, (JCF),  and for the seventh consecutive year, Katahdin Trust Company was the major corporate sponsor of the event. More than 60 other businesses contributed corporate and hole sponsorships and a number of other local businesses and individuals made cash donations or provided prizes.

“We can’t thank all of our sponsors enough for their generosity, commented Tamra Kilcollins, JCF executive director. “Along with our sponsors there are so many people to thank; the crew at the Caribou Country Club, our Jefferson Cary Foundation board members and all of the other many volunteers and players that help to make it a great event. The course was in great condition again this year for the golfers and spectators were treated to exceptional views from the brand new deck at the clubhouse.”

The Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament has been held at the Caribou Country Club for all 37 years of its history. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to help bring the newest Mammography and Imaging Services Equipment to Cary Medical Center.
